Notes from building interfaces, working with coding agents and making tools I use.
Coding agents need a place to work
Even a small change needs the right materials. I am shaping a working setup that keeps an agent's task connected to its code, design and checks.
The design is in Figma. Which screen are we building?
Several screens can look right at first glance. Choosing one, then looking closer, gives a design handoff a much clearer starting point.
Finding the right page before changing the code
An old note can look just as convincing as the current guide. A useful search helps you choose what to read before you act on it.
Leave the next person a place to start
A finished change still needs a handoff. Where to look, what to try and what remains unchecked help the next person pick it up.
Show me what you want me to review
Choosing a layout is easier when the question sits beside the work. Relay keeps the choice and the note that qualifies it together.
Making software easier for an agent to use
A useful result, a manageable amount to read and a clear moment before saving: small interface decisions shape how an agent works with people.
When a useful tool no longer needs to exist
I tried a smaller doorway to an agent's tools, measured one configuration and stopped maintaining the gateway when the clients caught up.
Help every part of a page work from the same draft
A form, preview and toolbar need to agree about what you are editing. Scoped shared state gives that working draft a clear home.
A clearer way to review work with an agent
A diagram should be something you can see and point at. Relay gives an agent's questions and your feedback a shared place in the browser.
Look closely before building the page
A design link contains more than a picture. Figma Lens helps a coding agent choose a screen, read its details and carry that reference into a browser check.
Make a small wiki edit without losing the page around it
Finding the checklist, reading what is there and reviewing a small change gives an agent a more useful way to help with team documentation.
Keep the ticket close to the work
Reading a ticket and leaving a useful update belong in the same working flow. Jira CLI makes those small steps available from the terminal.
Renovating a product while people still use it
Moving PRIMUS into one frontend took about 18 months alongside feature work. The difficult part was living with the old and new systems together.
